STONE MOUNTAIN, Ga. – A gaming prodigy and self-proclaimed Baldur’s Gate 3 addict has allegedly completed the 2023 game of the year so many times he’s unlocked all 17,000 possible endings.
Sean Mince, better known by his Twitch handle, BranwenStan, said he’s been playing the massively popular roleplaying game every day since its release on Aug. 3, 2023 with the intention of finding every possible way to complete the game.
“Ever since I saw the Fextralife video explaining how big the game was going to be, I knew I had to be the first one to unlock every single ending,” said Mince.
The streamer announced he was going to take on this daunting challenge during his first live playthrough of the game, but said he was going to simply play the game for fun the first time through.
“Getting bogged down in these challenges can really make a game feel tedious, so I really wanted to take my time on my first play through to really enjoy the world Larian Studios built,” said Mince. “And all I can say is this game is more than just game of the year, it’s game of the goddamn century!”
Mince’s first playthrough of the game took about 250 hours, but he admits he spent a lot of time exploring every nook and cranny, speaking with all the NPCs, and taking elaborate notes to map out the decisions he’d have to make in order to reach each potential ending.
“The amount of detail Larian put into this game is mind blowing,” said Mince. “They thought of everything a player might do or try to do. During my first playthrough, I thought there was absolutely no way there could be 17,000 endings, but then I did something a little different on my second playthrough and it completely changed the trajectory of the game. I’m still in awe of how incredible this game is.”
An average playthrough of Baldur’s Gate 3 is between 75-100 hours according to Larian Studios. The fastest speedrun, a term for when a gamer exploits glitches to finish the game a quickly as possible, is just over 10 minutes. If Mince could use the speedrun’s exploits to find each ending, it would’ve still taken him 118 days to complete. If he did each playthrough from the beginning, it would take him more than 53,000 days.
However, with notes in hand, an extensive flow chart, and some creative saving, he was able to save the game prior to each possible branch in the storyline, play the game until the next branch, save again, then go back. By the time he finished, he had collected more than 1 million save files.
“It was a logistical nightmare,” said Mince. “I basically created the MCU multiverse in my save files.”
BranwenStan started this quest for Baldur’s Gate completion with a handful of followers on Twitch, but news of his adventure brought in new viewers from around the globe. When he finished the game for the 17,000th time, he celebrated by popping a bottle of root beer with his twenty viewers, his “ride or die” fans who didn’t have any problem watching him replay every event thousands of time.
We reached out to Larian Studios for comment and they replied with the following: We want to thank Mr. Mince for his tireless dedication to our game. We’ll make sure Alfira sings songs of your exploits (assuming you didn’t kill her in your Dark Urge playthrough.
“Dark what?” Mince said. “You’re telling me there’s more if you have the Dark Urge background? I, um, I think I need to go touch some grass.”
