When President Joe Biden announced he was no longer seeking a second term as president, the political world was cast into unprecedented territory. While politicians on both sides of the aisle were frantically scrambling to figure out what would happen next, a small group of conservative apparel business owners argue that Biden’s decision was a deliberate attack against the middle class.

When Biden secured the delegates needed to officially become the Democratic nominee for president, these small business owners set out creating their inventory for the upcoming election season, dumping a majority of their money into swag featuring the GOP’s popular war cry, Let’s Go Brandon.

The Let’s Go Brandon, slogan began on Oct. 2, 2021, when NBC Sports reporter Kelli Stavast inaccurately described fans chanting “Fuck Joe Biden” as “Let’s go Brandon” while interviewing Sparks 300 race winner Brandon Brown at Talladega Superspeedway.

Now, with Biden out, no one is buying this merchandise and business owners are scrambling to unload the overhead by any means possible.

“We tried giving the shirts to the homeless people around here, but apparently they actually like Joe Biden because the Democrats actually care about them and aren’t constantly trying to criminalize their misfortune,” said Jerry Smith, owner of It’s Not a Cult, LLC. “So, the next best thing we could think of is to send them overseas to some third-world country where the poor people don’t know who Biden is.”

With tens-of-thousands of dollars of merchandise wasting on his shelves, he reached out to Good360, the same charitable organization that handles excess merchandise for the NFL—namely pre-printed championship swag meant for the losing team, had they won—and ships them overseas to impoverished communities and survivors of natural disasters.

“At the end of the day, the message on these articles of clothing don’t really matter,” said Shari Rudolph, Good360 chief development and chief marketing officer. “By getting good, high-quality clothes to people who might otherwise go without takes a massive step toward driving social impact and improving human dignity around the globe.”

And the recipients of the t-shirts are eternally grateful for the donations as well. Alpine 6 Action News sent Brad, the unpaid intern along with a crate of these shirts to their final destination in a small village in Ethiopia to get their reaction.

“The t-shirt is really soft and comfortable, these Chinese-made shirts are always really nice,” said Biruk Abebe, 10, who was wearing an Indianapolis Colts Superbowl XLIV championship shirt. “I don’t know who Brandon is, but I hope he is doing well. Let’s go Brandon!”

Ethiopia was chosen for this delivery of t-shirts and hats because the nation is in its third year of droughts and currently at risk of El Niño-induced flooding; all of this while tensions between the nation’s government and the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) in the northern parts of the country remain despite a ceasefire, other conflicts persist in the central and Northeast regions, and persistent inflation deepens the humanitarian crisis sweeping the nation.

If you’re interested in helping the people of Ethiopia or other countries facing humanitarian crisis, consider donating to the International Rescue Committee which is currently working with more than 40 countries like Ethiopia, Gaza, Sudan, and Ukraine, to provide critical relief such as water, food, and medical care.
