Tattoo parlors around the country are reporting a new trend is sweeping the nation following a contentious interview between President Donald Trump and ABC reporter Terry Moran: knuckle tattoos using the basic, free with all Microsoft products, arial typeface.
This emerging trend appears to be fueled by the president’s supporters after the “not very nice” reporter continually fact checked Trump about a photo of tattoos belonging to Kilmar Abrego Garcia, an immigrant who was deported to an El Salvador mega prison despite being given legal protection from deportation by a Trump-appointed judge.
The photo in question shows tattoos on Garcia’s knuckles and “M” “S” “1” “3” typed above them, veru obviously done by someone with an elementary school understanding of MS Paint. Trump used this photo during a press event to show “irrefutable evidence” that Garcia was a member of the notorious MS-13 gang and try to justify his administration’s refusal to comply with the Supreme Court, which has ordered him to bring Garcia back to the United States.
During the interview, Trump repeatedly said that Garcia’s tattoos very clearly said MS-13 and that the photo was evidence of that. Moran tried to counter by saying the obvious: the typeface was added after the fact or “photoshopped” as he put it, but were not actually tattoos. The president then went on a tirade, blasting Moran’s credibility, because he doesn’t like it very much when people try to use the truth to counter his narrative of lies.
“The photo very clearly says ‘MS-13’ on it,” said Trump. “I know you lame stream media guys like to think I’m dumb, but I’m not dumb. I’m the opposite of dumb, really. My IQ, you’ve never seen a number that high before. Believe me. But go ahead, keep trying to lie to my face when my eyes can clearly see the numbers MS-13 right there.”
To show their unwavering commitment to this man who’s either incapable of admitting fault, is senile, or a combination of both—as well as to “stick it” to Moran for questioning the president in a public forum—Trump supporters have flocked to their local tattoo parlors for a wide array of 4-5 letter arial-typeface tattoos on their knuckles, such as “MAGA”, “TRUMP”, and “WINER”.
“I think I’ve done five or six of these tattoos today,” said Wayne Waterford, a tattoo artist and owner of Dirty Needles tattoo parlor in Las Vegas. “These dudes come in with a piece of white paper that looks like they printed it off their home ink jet. It looks dumb and lazy but they’re paying premium prices for something that looks like a school kid did with a ballpoint pen.”
One Trump supporter may have taken this new meta a bit too far. Jeremy Silvers, a U.S. citizen, was arrested by ICE during an early morning raid on his house and promptly deported to El Salvador after getting “MS-13” tattooed on his knuckles. The tattoo artist reported Silvers to ICE after he suspected the 68-year-old may have had connections to the gang.
According to a lawyer representing Silvers, he was not a member of MS-13 and only got the tattoo because he thought it would be what all the other MAGA enthusiasts would do, similar to when they got Trump’s mugshot printed on a T-shirt.
“I never thought ICE would come after me or my family because we’re white, God-fearing United States citizen Christians,” said Mary Silvers, Jeremy’s wife. “They didn’t even ask if he was a citizen or nothing. They just knocked down our front door, tazed us in our jammies, and hauled him off. I haven’t heard or seen him since.”
Silvers was on the verge of understanding why so many U.S. citizens are frustrated and fearful of Trump’s current grab for power and blatant disregard for the rule of law when it comes to deporting people without due process. Instead, she simply pleaded for President Trump to make this mistake right, and said she has the utmost confidence in the president to do the right thing because “there’s no way he’ll abandon his supporters.”
When asked about whether he plans on bringing Silvers back to U.S. soil, President Trump simply asked, “who?”
