OTTAWA, Canada – After news broke that a Norwegian tourist was denied entry into the United States after Immigration and Custom Enforcement (ICE) agents at Newark International Airport found JD Vance memes on his phone, the Canadian government announced that it will now accept JD Vance memes at all border crossings, in lieu of a U.S. passport.

The decision, while seemingly silly, was made in part because the stereotypically ultra-nice country still maintains a grudge about President Donald Trump’s continued assumption that he can annex the sovereign nation into becoming the 51st state of the United States.

“The U.S.-Canada border is one of the most secure borders in the world,” said Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney. “It wasn’t that long ago that you could cross between our two nations without a passport. So, yeah, we feel comfortable in our decision to accept JD Vance memes as an official form of identification from Americans, if for no other reason than we know this mockery will ruin President Trump and JD Vance’s day.”

Carney also added that it didn’t matter which JD Vance meme a traveler presented to gain access to his country, but his favorite so far is the babyface memes. “Those are fricking hilarious, don’t you know?”

According to the website, knowyourmeme.com, the JD Vance babyface memes, or JD Vance babyface edits as they’re sometimes called, refer to several photoshopped images of the vice president in which he is given exaggerated baby features to his face, such as large cheeks and lips and smooth skin. The edits were part of a larger set of photoshopped images of Vance, known as Rare Vances. These images were heavily circulated on social media in October 2024 and early 2025, and were revived in March 2025 when Vance asked Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, “have you said, ‘thank you’ once?” during a meeting between the heads of state in the Oval Office.

Carney’s announcement has made many Americans excited about the prospect of visiting our neighbors to the North.

“We’ve always wanted to visit Canada,” said Deborah Wall, a third-grade teacher from Minneapolis. “But getting a passport was going to cost about $250 each, and we can barely afford to buy groceries, so this dream of ours always felt so far away. But JD Vance memes are free. We like free. Like Canada’s free healthcare.”

U.S. border agents have warned potential travelers that while Canada may allow American citizens into their country with a meme, the same hilarious gesture of good faith will not be extended to them on their journey home.

“We get it; it’s funny,” said Cameron Smith, a border control agent in upstate New York. “But don’t go trying to come into the U.S. with that shit. It won’t work. We’ll deport your ass right back to Canada.”

“You mean, we’ll have to stay in a country that isn’t being run by a giant Cheeto with bad hair? Shucks,” said Wall, who wanted to leave the United States after Donald Trump was first elected in 2016 but still couldn’t afford a passport on an elementary school teacher’s salary.

When asked if Canada would accept these American travels to remain in the country if the United States barred them back into their own country, Carney said, “we know the people of a country are not their government. If American citizens want to come to Canada, we will embrace them with open arms and treat them with the dignity and respect they deserve—because that’s what you do for refugees.”

Critics of this open border policy say it goes against Carney’s stance on immigration back in March, but the prime minister is adamant that his new Vance Meme Immigration agenda is just petty enough to use in negotiations with Washington about dropping the 25% tariffs the President put on his country back in March.

“I would be happy to reverse my decision on this if President Trump is that insecure about some memes circulating on the internet,” said Carney. “But he’s got to reverse a couple decisions too. Otherwise, I think the only way he gets his citizens back is if he makes us the 51st state, and we all know that isn’t going to happen.”
